It’s about that time of year when you will start to see the Girl Scouts selling cookies outside of the grocery store!  If you find it hard to turn down the adorable Brownies, don’t worry!  You can always give the girls the $4.00 and have them donate the box to military troops overseas!  You know if that box comes home with you, you are going to end up eating it!  Instead of that, do a good deed with zero calories

YA BABY!! Next time your mate falls into bed without brushing his teeth (sorry guys)…. You may want to gently remind him, that besides dirty teeth and bad breath…. Not brushing can lead to… bad sex! A new study published in “The Journal of Sexual Medicine” found that rats with gum disease had less of the enzyme eNOS… Yes people… The enzyme that plays an important role in achieving an erection. So boys… Get on it!!  Brush and floss if you wanna be a better romp between the sheets!

Which has now taken on a life of it’s own with it’s own Twitter account… @AngiesRightLeg…. and thousands of followers! Miss Beau Dunn has discovered a new way to have her crunch and make it healthy too! Instead of eating chips with her guacamole, she has been using “JICAMA.” Jicama is a high-fiber food and a good source of potassium. It’s low in sodium, calories, and fat. Jicama also contains calcium, magnesium, vitamins A and C, and beta-carotene. An entire medium-size jicama has only 250 calories and contains about 32 g of fiber.

Next time you need a crunch, forget the chips…. Grab some jicama!!

It’s no longer just a motto for the Boy Scouts! Make it your own motto to fight off fat!  I always try and keep a cooked chicken breast in my fridge.  If I get home late from work, or I am too rushed during the day to cook, I try to have something ready to go that I can eat right away.  When I’m not prepared, and go too long without eating,  I’ll find myself grazing while I cook or ripping into the first bag of cookies I can get my hands on.   You never know when a one hour meeting will turn into a five hour affair!

Humans are comforted by nature. In a study done by scientists at Harvard University, a group of test subjects were sent flowers and had much better results than a group that was sent a candle. The “Floral” group was less depressed and felt less anxiety compared to the candle group… showing us that vegetation elevates emotions.

According to Mehmet C. Oz, coauthor of “You: Stress less” “Without question, stress is mitigated by nature”. He suggests keeping a plant on your desk and fresh cut flowers on your dinner table to help keep stress at bay. What a better way to say “I love me” than to send yourself some beautiful flowers and watch as your stress declines.

Let’s wash those troubles away! According to a new study…. giving yourself a good cleaning can actually help clear away anxiety, problems and worries. Spike W.S. Lee, a doctoral student and lead author of the study, says… “When people wash their hands… or even take a shower… they feel they are washing away their concerns about a given situation”.

Subjects who washed their hands doubted their decisions less, looked on the brighter side of negative situations and were better able to shake off those unlucky feelings…. Easiest way to a mood boost we have ever heard of!!

I think it’s great that many restaurants and fast food chains are required to post nutritional information and calorie counts on their menus… unfortunately you can’t always believe what you read!  Researcher from Tufts University found 19% of foods they tested had 100 or more excess calories over what was posted! On average most studies find almost one out of every five restaurant dishes to be way under estimated on calories.  Be careful next time you order you may be getting more calories than you have accounted for.  It’s important to still practice portion control even if the posted calories seem reasonable!
